Man Charged With Pulling Gun On Cab Driver In Round Rock

Turned out to be a BB gun, but Marquese Kevon Owens was later booked into Williamson County Jail under a $30,000 bail.

ROUND ROCK, TX — A teenager is accused of having pulled a gun on a cab driver this week after refusing to pay the fare, according to a published report.

Marquese Kevon Owens, 19, was charged with robbery, which is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment, according to a report in the Austin American-Statesman.

The cab driver told police he dropped off a woman on Tuesday afternoon along the 1300 block of Logan Street in Logan Street when a man made overtures as if to pay the $20 fare before brandishing what appeared to be a handgun, according to an arrest affidavit referenced in the report. Owens had directed the woman to go inside the house before his interaction with the cabbie.

Another resident living in the house told police Owens carries a black BB gun that strongly resembles a handgun, according to the affidavit. According to that document, the man actually tried paying the cab fare but his bank card was declined. Owens claims the cab driver sped off, adding he didn't have his BB gun on him at the time, according to the report.

But the cab driver told a different story. After the failed attempt to pay the fare, Owens is said to have directed the driver to his mother's house just a few houses down so she could make the payment. But when Owens got out of the cab, he walked around it a couple of time, according to the affidavit, and then put his hand near his waistband while asking rhetorically: "Do you know who I am?"

The cab driver finally sped off with Owens pursuing on foot trying to open the driver's door at one point. Police later found the BB gun in his room, with Owens claiming it was his brother's.

Owens was booked into the Williamson County Jail on Wednesday with bail set at $30,000.
