Here are the top 3 stories today in Round Rock:

  1. Over the weekend, we reported that the Round Rock Black Parents Association took a stand against RRISD's attempt to ban "Stamped," a book about the history of racist ideas in America. Now, some moms of color from the 400-plus member Association are speaking up about why they opposed the book ban at their kids' schools. "Taking away that book would have completely whitewashed history, and that's not what we are for," Ashley Walker, a member of the Round Rock Black Parents Association, told NBC. Ultimately, the district decided to keep "Stamped" on the reading list. (NBC News)
  2. In the pandemic era, more people than ever are choosing to live, work, and invest in the Lone Star State. But some areas are seeing more of "the New Texas Migration" than others. Counties surrounding the Austin-San Antonio corridor, including Williamson County, are among the most popular move destinations, with an average growth of nearly 50 percent over the last decade. Despite rising home prices, Central Texas is "the place to be," says experts from Kuper Sotheby's International Realty: Areas like Round Rock are "still very affordable, especially compared to East and West Coast home prices." (San Antonio Business Journal)
  3. Speaking of Texas migration, Round Rock has been named by Travel Awaits as one of 11 Texas Hill Country locations retirees will love. When seniors are ready to leave the hustle and bustle of Austin behind, they can relocate to nearby Round Rock to enjoy the city's many golf courses, hiking trails, and parks. Travel Awaits also called out the city's retail and restaurant scene, which means retirees won't have to travel far to experience name-brand shopping and dining. (TravelAwaits)
