One Dead, Another Buried Under Rubble After Street Excavation Collapse North Of Austin [UPDATED]
Police closed off streets as emergency crews try extricating trapped worker from under rubble in accident that killed another worker.

LOCKHART, TX -- Officials with the Lockhart Police Department confirmed Wednesday that a construction worker died while another was hospitalized after being trapped after an excavation project collapsed on them.
The Lockhart excavation project was taking place near the intersection of Clear Fork and City Line roads when the collapse occurred, KXAN-TV reported.
On Thursday, Caldwell County officials identified the man who died in the trench collapse as Nathan Fryday, a resident of Edna. He was killed when a wastewater line collapse trapped him under a construction trench.

Emergency first responders first arrived on the scene shortly after 11 a.m. but were unable to pull Fryday's body from the trench until nearly four-and-a-half hours later, according to Lockhart police.
The accident has prompted several road closures. Officials said Clear Fork Road from Mockinbird to City Line Road will remain closed to traffic for several hours. Only residents living in an adjacent subdivision would be granted access if traveling from San Jacinto street.

Lockhart is located in Caldwell County, within the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The city last month saw another tragedy, when 16 people were killed in a hot air balloonafter it hit power lines and burst into flames.
