Pair Indicted For Cocaine, Meth Distribution After Round Rock Traffic Stop

Federal grand jury on Wednesday returned indictments against Patsy Vargas Sandoval of Copperas Cove and Federico Jaimes Castelan of Austin.

ROUND ROCK, TX — A federal grand jury on Wednesday returned indictments against a pair of suspects for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine in what began with a traffic stop in Round Rock.

The grand jury indicted Patsy Vargas Sandoval, 38, of Copperas Cove and Federico Jaimes Castelan, 37, of Austin. On June 20, Round Rock Police Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2800 block of N. Interstate 35 and seized more than 10 ounces of meth after a vehicle search, officials said. Vargas, the driver of the vehicle, was placed under arrest for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.

Detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding the stop and subsequently obtained a search warrant for an apartment in the Tech Ridge area of Austin. The Round Rock Police Department in conjunction with members of the FBI, Austin Police Department, Pflugerville Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement executed the search warrant.

During the search of the apartment just under two pounds of cocaine and about 19 ounces of methamphetamine were found. Additionally, $28,339 in cash was also seized from the apartment. Jaimes, who lived in the apartment, was taken into custody at that time, officials said.
