ICYMI: Residents Invited To Envision 'Round Rock 2030'

Series of community meetings scheduled in February and March designed to solicit public input as city manages growth in the coming decade.

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS — Residents are invited to help envision the future of Round Rock with city officials as they develop a plan dubbed "Round Rock 2030" to manage growth.

Previously known simply as the "General Plan," the re-dubbed initiative is a long-range document that will serve as policy guide and framework as it relates to land use decisions for the coming decade, city officials explained.

The blueprint of sorts comes amid a brisk pace of growth for Round Rock in recent years. The plan highlights how the city has changed over the past decade while creating a vision for what Round Rock might look like in the year 2030. This planning process is expected to take approximately 1.5 years, with adoption in spring 2020, city officials said.

What kind of information will be included in Round Rock 2030?

Round Rock 2030, city officials replied, will be broad in scope, allowing for flexibility while providing a basis for policy and zoning decisions. The plan will cover development issues across the city, identifying areas that are most suitable or unsuitable for certain types of development, and establishing policies that will help leaders implement the vision set out in the plan. This plan is created to fit in with the City’s other long-range plans, the City Council’s Strategic Plan, and department-specific master plans, such as the Transportation Master Plan.

"In order for Round Rock 2030 to be successful, it should reflect the needs and wants of our residents and businesses," city officials said. To that end, four public meetings are scheduled to take place in as many distinct areas of Round Rock from February to March.
