Round Rock Approves Land Purchase For New Fire Station

New facility will be located at 201 Sundance Parkway in the La Frontera shopping center, replacing existing Station 3 built in 1991.

ROUND ROCK, TX — Members of the Round Rock City Council on Thursday approved the purchase of two acres of land for relocation of a fire station.

The new facility will be located at 201 Sundance Parkway in the La Frontera shopping center, replacing the existing Station 3 built in 1991 on Rawhide Drive.

“Station 3 will be uniquely located in a popular retail and restaurant corridor while providing strategic access to major roadways for maximum efficiency in our response,” Fire Chief Robert Isbell said.

Originally built for one vehicle and crew, Station 3 is currently packed with an engine, aerial fire apparatus, and Williamson County EMS ambulance crew, officials noted. As a result, the space has limited amenities for firefighters. The proposed station will have a similar design to recently opened Stations 4 and 8, and be able to house existing vehicles and crews assigned to that district with room to grow, officials said.

Also included in the layout is an office for Round Rock Police Department employees to use for completing paperwork and meet with the public while on duty, according to city officials. Round Rock residents approved funding for the relocation of Station 3 in the 2013 bond election. The station is still under design, with construction expected to begin in spring 2019.
