Round Rock Bomb Scare Halts Holiday Celebration
A stretch of Main Street was evacuated in the midst of 'Christmas Family Night' after police canines alerted to the contents of a mailbox.
ROUND ROCK, TX — A bomb scare on Friday afternoon prompted Round Rock police to evacuate Main Street in the midst of the city's popular "Christmas Holiday Night" holiday event before the contents of a mailbox were deemed benign.
At around 4:30 p.m., Round Rock Police Department canines alerted to a mailbox located on East Main Street between Lampasas and Sheppard streets, prompting law enforcement officials to clear the vendors' area of the event, officials said in a press advisory. As an added precaution, officials added, local police sought assistance from the Austin Police Department's bomb squad to sweep the area.
The all-clear was given three hours later, and events at the main stage located west of Mays Street — including live music and appearances by Santa and Mayor Craig Morgan — were allowed to resume.
