Round Rock's 4th Of July Fireworks 2020 Canceled

Round Rock's traditional Fourth of July events may be canceled, but there are several other ways you can celebrate the holiday safely.

ROUND ROCK, TX β€” The official Round Rock fireworks show this Independence Day has been canceled due to fears over the coronavirus, but the Round Rock Express baseball team will go to bat this year to provide some pyrotechnics in the city.

The city celebration will feature three separate routes passing through city neighborhoods this year, the three-way-split designed to ensure physical distancing. β€œThe COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to make many adjustments over the past few months, but our community has proven that we are resilient in the face of adversity,” Mayor Craig Morgan said in a prepared statement β€œWe are excited to offer a way to enjoy Independence Day with our families while following health protocols issued by the state.”

Residents are invited to enjoy the parade from their front yard if located along a route or find a space along the route, officials said on the city website. Residents located along a route are also encouraged to show their spirit by decorating their yards. Each route will include a β€œPatriotic Power Stop” where the public can view the parade and enjoy free giveaways and refreshments with city council members, organizers added. These stops will have limited space, and social distancing will be encouraged.

However, the city has canceled its annual Frontier Days and fireworks show at Old Settlers Park this year due to the spread of respiratory illness. Organizers said a dense, large gathering at Old Settlers Park would not be in accordance with health protocols for outdoor events created by the Governor’s Strike Force to Open Texas, which state that β€œindividuals should avoid being in a group larger than 10 individuals,” including those within the individual’s household, or otherwise maintain six feet of separation.

Instead, Round Rock Express will host a concert followed by fireworks show starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, at Dell Diamond with measures in place to encourage social distancing. Tickets are available at RRExpress.com.
