ROUND ROCK, TX — The Round Rock Police Department and City of Round Rock’s Community Development Division recently came together to bring holiday cheer to home-bound seniors.

On Dec. 3, Neighborhood Services staff and police officers assisted in putting up Christmas lights and doing yard work at four homes of Round Rock residents who are clients of Meals on Wheels as part of the “Light up the Holidays” initiative that started in 2017, officials said in a press advisory.

Benefiting seniors receive a freshly cooked lunch delivered by volunteers five days a week as part of the tradition, officials explained. Recipients of the service said that they would enjoy the opportunity to decorate their homes for the holidays but cannot due to physical limitations, officials added.

“A lot of times, some of these seniors don’t have local family members that help them out during the holidays, so it’s a good opportunity for us to clean up their yard and decorate it with Christmas lights to give them some excitement for the holidays,” Officer Angelo Marmarinos said in a prepared statement.

The program was made possible by a donation of LED holiday lights by Round Rock Home Depot.
