Round Rock Earns State Comptroller Accolades For Its Financial Transparency

ROUND ROCK, TX — The city recently received accolades from the state comptroller for its financial transparency, officials announced.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar tapped Round Rock as the latest local government entity to achieve specific transparency goals through the Comptroller’s Transparency Stars Program. The city received a star in the area of Debt Obligations, which recognizes entities for their outstanding efforts in making their debt obligations and trending historical data of tax and revenue supported debt information available.

The awarding of a Transparency Star denotes recognition to local government entities providing easy online access to important financial data, officials said.

“By providing meaningful financial data in addition to visual tools and analysis of its revenues and expenditures, the City of Round Rock has shown a true commitment to Texas taxpayers," Hegar said in a prepared statement. "This effort achieves the goals set by my office’s Transparency Stars program. I am pleased to award The City of Round Rock a star for its accomplishments.”

The Comptroller’s office launched the Transparency Stars program in March 2016 to recognize cities, counties and school districts making important strides to greater government transparency, city officials explained. Local government entities can apply for stars in the areas of:

• Traditional Finances,
• Contracts and Procurement,
• Economic Development,
• Public Pensions, and
• Debt Obligations.

After receiving an initial star for Traditional Finances in April 2017 and now the Debt Obligations, the city will apply for the remaining stars: Contracts and Procurement, Economic Development and Public Pensions, officials said.
