Round Rock ISD Approves 2 Percent Pay Increases For Teachers, Others

The across-the-board increases are an effort to keep the school district competitive and enhance recruitment and retention of staff.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- School district officials this week approved a 2 percent pay increase and boost in starting salaries for teachers.

The new salary guidelines were approved during the last meeting of the Round Rock ISD board of trustees this past Thursday.

The upshot: Starting salaries for teachers, librarians and registered nurses will be $44,500, with eligible employees eligible for $1,040 general pay increases, reports the Austin American-Statesman.

Additionally, school counselors starting pay will go up to $49,400, with those eligible able to earn a $1,200 general pay increase.

The salary hikes will cost the district close to $6 million, officials said. Last year, the district approved the same percentage increase at a cost to the district of $4.79 million, the Statesman reported.

In approving the raises, school board members said they were implemented to keep the district competitive nationally in terms of recruitment and retention of educators and other school employees.
