Round Rock ISD Ensures Safe Surfing For Its Students

Through use of YouTube for Education, videos are vetted toward creating a safe environment.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- Round Rock ISD officials have partnered with YouTube to ensure a safe surfing environment among students.

Through a service offered by YouTube EDU, all content will be vetted while removing advertisements and comments that would normally appear below a video. The move was prompted after YouTube access was made available to students other than in just secondary schools as before.

The education-focused version of YouTube with the EDU extension contains thousands of pre-approved videos available for viewing. Also known as YouTube for Education, the service categorizes educational videos into three main topic areas: Primary and Secondary Education; University Education; and Lifelong Learning.

“YouTube is a tremendously valuable resource for our students,” RRISD Director of Instructional Technology Lannon Heflin said in a prepared statement. “Students and staff default fo YouTube for so many things already, and we are excited to offer this tool in a safe environment.”

Education Networks of America provide a nifty primer on the service at its blog. Read more about it here.
