Round Rock ISD Schools Among Sites With Storm-Induced Power Outages
Phones and Internet went down as a result of the rainfall, but were restored some hours later with communication with parents intact.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- The storm that swept over Central Texas overnight on Wednesday knocked out power to thousands of utility customers -- including Round Rock ISD, where an outage put phones and the Internet out of commission in the early part of the morning.
But the issue was swiftly handled, with district phones being used to communicate among campuses, explained Round Rock ISD spokesman Corey Ryan. The affected campuses were Stony Point High School and Double File Trail Elementary School.
In an emailed exchange with Patch, Ryan only addressed the issues at Stony Point. As a result, it was left unclear how long the outage lasted at the elementary school and what measures were taken to mitigate the outage.

"The Stony Point High School power was restored by 9:30 a.m.," Ryan wrote in a response to a question about both campuses. "The phones and Internet were restored shortly after that."
He said school officials were still able to send needed updates to parents via email even in the midst of the outage.

"The Round Rock ISD district office was receiving calls during that time and we provided information to parents through email," Ryan said. "Our maintenance team works with our utility providers to minimize impact of outages, however, restoration is in the hands of third-party businesses."
