Round Rock ISD Trustee Files For WilCo Commissioner's Post

Republican Nikki Gonzales has officially filed to run against WilCo commissioner Terry Cook, a Democrat, in the November 2020 election.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Round Rock ISD board of trustees member Nikki Gonzales, a Republican, has officially filed to run against incumbent WilCo commissioner Terry Cook in the November 2020 election, according to a report in The Austin-American Statesman.

Gonzalez has been the vice president of the Round Rock ISD school board since 2017, according to her bio. She is also the director of operations of governmental relations at Texas State Technical College. Prior to that, she served as chief of staff for a Republican State Representative for 9 years, according to her campaign literature.

In filing for the county commissioner's post, Gonzales aims to unseat the first Democrat to have have made a successful bid to the government body since the mid 90s, as the Austin American-Statesman noted in its report. In a 2014 Statesman profile of the candidate, Gonzales described herself as the child of immigrants who was the first in her family to graduate from college.
