Round Rock Man Accused Of Dragging Dog With Truck

Zager Yuseth Zelaya Rubio, 28, faces up to 10 years in prison after bull terrier mix animal found badly injured.

ROUND ROCK, TX — A Round Rock man stands accused of dragging his dog from the back of his pick-up truck, badly injuring the animal

Referencing an arrest affidavit, KVUE reported on the incident that occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday along the 2600 block of Bluffstone Drive. Police received a call from a concerned resident saying that Zager Yuseth Zelaya Rubio, 28, intentionally ran over the animal before fleeing the scene. It's believed the dog accidentally fell out of the vehicle but Rubio kept driving rather than retrieving the dog.

When police arrived, they found a blood trail stretching about a mile on the roadway along with the badly bleeding bull terrier mix dog, the account indicates. The animal also sustained a broken hind leg and a cut so deep that bone was sticking out from the open wound, according to the report.

Named "Champ," the dog is living up to its name in its recovery. Shelter officials shared video and photos of the animal being tended to by staff. After posting photos of its injuries, the shelter secured more than $8,000 in donations from the public to cover the vet bills.
