Round Rock Man Accused Of Stealing Firearm

Derek Thomas Darden, 20, is said to have taken a weapon at a home in the northern part of the city while at a home alone last October.

ROUND ROCK, TX — Police are seeking a man accused of stealing a firearm recently taken from house, officials said.

The gun was taken in October 2017 from a closet in the home while the suspect was there alone, police said in a Facebook post. The suspect has been identified as Derek Thomas Darden, 20. The owner of the firearm reported the theft, which is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in jail, police explained.

Darden is described as standing six feet tall and weighing 180 pounds with red hair and blue eyes. Police didn't disclose the address where the alleged theft took place, saying only it occurred in North Round Rock. Police also didn't describe the firearm allegedly taken.

According to Williamson County Jail records, Darden was previously jailed for a theft stemming from Cedar Park. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail on April 10, 2017, for theft between $100-$750 and held on $2,000 bond after being charged a week before. The mugshot used by Round Rock police in the most recent case is from that previous incident as evident in the jail records.
