Round Rock Man Among Those Injured In Jacksonville Shooting
Tony Montagnino was shot in the lower back while attending video game tournament in Florida but is expected to return home on Monday.

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS — A Round Rock man returning home on Monday is lucky to be alive after being injured— but among the survivors — of a shooting at a Florida video game tournament on Sunday that left three dead.
Tony Montagnino of Round Rock was shot in the lower back while playing in the video tournament late Sunday morning, KVUE reported. Sustaining a minor injury, he was released from the hospital by nightfall and back in his hotel room, the news station reported.
"I got hospital scrubs on, it's bandaged up pretty tight because for about two hours it was just bleeding and they couldn't get it to quit," Montagnino told KVUE about his wound.

Montagnino was among the hundreds attending the Madden Championship Series competition Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla., when a lone gunman opened fire. Even though the shooter was right behind him, his life was spared.

"I saw just flashes from the gun and I dove,” he told the news station. "The thought that you're laying there and this could possibly be the end and you can't even tell the people that you care about them … it's pretty rough."
The father of two children is grateful for a second chance: "I get an opportunity to hug my family," he told KVUE. "It's almost like a second shot at life." His wife and sister flew out to Florida to see him, and the trio is expected to return to Round Rock on Monday, the news station reported.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on Sunday night identified the suspect in the shooting as David Katz, 24, of Baltimore. All told, the rampage claimed 14 victims, including two dead and another dozen sustaining gunshot wounds.
The shooter was part of the competition, law enforcement officials later said, categorizing him as a disgruntled gamer who had played in a previous tournament but lost. Police said Katz died of a self-inflicted gun wound after having opened fire on the contestants.
