Round Rock Man Arrested After Child Found In Store Parking Lot

ROUND ROCK, TX — A Round Rock man was arrested after his toddler was seen crawling with a child car still strapped to him at a grocery store parking lot, according to a newly released affidavit.
The Austin American-Statesman reported on the arrest of Troy Anthony Smith, 57, after witnesses called police to report the incident just after the noon hour on Monday. The three-year-old boy had been left alone in the man's Kia sport utility when he fell out of the vehicle, police said. The incident occurred in the parking lot of an HEB store at 250 University Blvd., according to the report.
Witnesses rushed to the boy's aid but were unable to unbuckle the boy from the car seat before 911 was called. Smith later approached some ten minutes later, telling police it was his son, according to the affidavit.

Smith was charged with abandoning or endangering a child, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in jail. He also with charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He subsequently was released from the Williamson County Jail Tuesday after posting bail set at $10,000.
