Round Rock Marks Black History Month With Community Events
Events taking place throughout February run the gamut from an art receptions to a bus tour of historic sites to a movie night.
ROUND ROCK, TX — Black History Month is an annual celebration of African American achievement in all manner of human endeavor. To mark the occasion, Round Rock has various community events planned art receptions to a movie screening to a bus tour showcasing local historic sites.

Celebrate Black History Month with an art reception honoring the photographs of Melissa Fontenette-Mitchell at the Round Rock Public Library. The event scheduled Thursday, Feb. 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. will feature a talk by the artist as she speaks of her black-and-white photography exhibit titled "From Slavery: Through Civil Rights to the White House," which will be on display in the library gallery throughout the month.

The Round Rock Black History Organization invites you to celebrate Black History Month with the 5th Annual Historic Bus Tour. The tour will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with stops at the Sweet Home Mural and the African-American Experience in Waco. Tickets are $25, and include a light breakfast and lunch.
Black History Month Movie Night
The Round Rock Public Library and the Round Rock Black History Organization will present a special showing of the movie "Hidden Figures" on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The 2016 film is based on the non-fiction book of the same name about black female mathematicians who worked for NASA during the space race pitting the U.S. against Russia at the height of the Cold War. The free screening is scheduled at The Inspired Studio, 110 S. Mays St., in downtown Round Rock.
Library cardholders also can celebrate Black History Month with a curated playlist from the library’s free music download/streaming service, Freegal.
