Round Rock PD Investigates After Officer Throws Girl On Sidewalk

Cell phone videos recorded by students show officer trying to take girl into custody before reaching around her neck and throwing her down.

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS — Police are investigating a forceful takedown of a teen girl outside a Round Rock High school by a campus officer, according to reports.

The incident is said to have occurred Friday at Cedar Ridge High School, KXAN reports. Cell phone videos recorded by students show the resource officer attempting to take a girl into custody before reaching around her neck and slamming her backward onto the sidewalk, the news station reported.

The videos then show another officer rushing to the scene as students surround them, all the while shouting in adding to the commotion. Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks confirmed to the news station that an investigation in the officer's actions has been launched, and he has been removed from working at the school pending the probe.

"If the officer did anything inappropriate, we'll take the appropriate actions from that point," Chief Banks told KXAN. "But we are gathering all video footage that we can of the incident. We're interviewing witnesses as well, and we'll take the appropriate actions that we need to take if we find the officer did anything inappropriate."

Police told the news station a separate investigation is ongoing focused on the girl's behavior that day. Another video circulating on social media is purported to show her allegedly attacking another girl inside a school bus, according to KXAN.
