Round Rock Police Schedule Community Events

From a prescription drugs disposal day to 'Trunk or Treat,' to 'Coffee With a Cop,' several community-oriented events are lined up.

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS — The Round Rock Police Department has scheduled several community events in the coming days through early November.

  • The Protect the Protectors presentation scheduled on Tuesday, Oct. 2, will center on the donation of home security devices by State Farm to police and fire personnel. The devices will be distributed just before first responders disperse to the more than 50 events that make up National Night Out at 5:30 p.m. Round Rock Public Safety Training Center, 2801 N. Mays St., just north of the police department. The Protect the Protectors program aims to provide security to first responders across the U.S., so that they too can know that their homes and loved ones are safe and secure. Nearly 10,000 home monitoring devices have been donated to date.
  • National Night Out is scheduled on Tuesday, Oct. 2. This is a citywide block party promoting positive interaction between neighbors and first responders. Residents are encouraged to go outside on this day and meet their neighbors. The annual gathering symbolizes a united front against crime.
  • National Afternoon Out, scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Baca Center, an event for senior citizens to meet with each other and the police.
  • Coffee with a Cop is scheduled on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Lamppost Coffee. These regular gathering between police and members of the community yield a relaxed setting for residents to air their concerns or offer feedback to officers. It's also a nice opportunity to thank the city's finest for protecting the community. The event is part of National Coffee with a Cop day
  • National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 27, enables residents to safely dispose of their unused prescription medications in a safe manner. Those wishing to dispose of prescriptions, over-the-counter medicine and pet medication can take them to the police department at 2701 N. Mays St. No questions asked. Bear in mind that this collection is for medicines only, and needles, syringes, thermometers, IV bags, medical devices and personal care products will not be accepted. Take-back programs are the safest method for disposing of prescription drugs as they are organized and closely monitored by local, state, and federal government agencies. These agencies ensure the proper disposal of the drugs in accordance with federal law.
  • The Fill the Cop Car food drive on Saturday, Oct. 27 is organized by police department and U.S. Army. Once again, both team up to sponsor the 2018 Hike for Hunger Food Drive benefiting the Round Rock Area Serving Center. Donations of nonperishable food items will be collected during a Fill the Cop Car event on this day at participating HEB grocery stores throughout the city:
    • 250 University Blvd.
    • 1700 East Palm Valley Blvd.
    • 3750 Gattis School Rd.
    • 603 Louis Henna Blvd.
    The Round Rock Serving Center serves low-income people and families in crisis situations through a food distribution program. At 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, participants will hike 2 miles from the U.S. Army Round Rock Recruiting Center to the Round Rock Area Serving Center carrying rucksacks filled with food. The public is encouraged to join the hike alongside the men and women of the Police Department and U.S. Army.
  • Trunk or Treat on Sunday, Oct. 28, offers a kid-safe Halloween festival featuring a haunted house, carnival games, crafts and music. Oh, and candy, of course. Lots and lots of candy. The event scheduled at the Public Safety Training Center is presented by Round Rock Operation Blue Santa, Williamson County Brown Santa, and Round Rock ISD Partners in Education Foundation. Admission is free, with toy and monetary donations welcome. It's scheduled from 2 p.m to 5 p.m. at 2801 N. Mays St.
  • Hike for Hunger on Nov. 3 is the delivery of donations from aforementioned food drive organized by RRPD and the U.S. Army.
