Before details were released, residents took to Twitter reporting a heavy police presence at the site. No injuries were reported. The sight of openly displayed firearms has become more common since the Jan. 1, 2016, passage of the so-called "open carry" law championed by conservative lawmakers as an expression of the 2nd Amendment. But in an age of heightened shootings at schools, the increasingly common sight of a gun near an educational setting is cause for understandable alarm.
One resident reported seeing nine police cars along with ambulances and fire trucks responding to the scene.
