ROUND ROCK, TX - A Round Rock High School teacher is out of a job and facing jail time after police charged her with an “improper relationship between educator and student.” According to the Round Rock Police Department, Randi Chaverria, 36, turned herself into the Williamson County Jail on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

In a report by KXAN-TV, Round Rock High School principal Matt Groff wrote in a letter to families that school administrators were first made aware of possible inappropriate behavior Nov. 18.

“Once notified, the teacher, who had elected to take leave before administration received the report, was immediately reported to the District’s Human Resources Department and law enforcement and not permitted to return to campus,” Groff wrote.

According to a district Facebook post, Chaverria was a Round Rock High School family science teacher and had been teaching for a little more than five years. Last year, she was named '2019 Secondary Teacher of the Year' at the district’s annual banquet.

“The most important role of a teacher is to help shape future generations to become successful members of our community,” Chaverria said at the time. “More than any curriculum I teach my students, I hope that they will walk away from my classroom thinking of ways that they can make a difference in their community and impact the lives of others for the better.”
