Round Rock, Williamson County Agree To Share Flood Control Costs
The targeted flood mitigation area centers on the east side of the city, near flood-prone Oak Bluff Estates and Greenfield subdivisions

ROUND ROCK, TX -- City officials have taken a major step toward alleviating flooding issues in east Round Rock by teaming up with county officials in signing an engineering contract aimed at such fixes, according to a published report.
Round Rock City Council members recently approved an $80,295 engineering contract with Houston-based engineering firm of Lockwood, Andres & Newman Inc., the Austin American-Statesman reported.
The firm's engineers are tasked with analyzing and surveying the drainage system near the Oak Bluff Estates and Greenfield subdivisions with an aim toward improvement designed at flood control, the newspaper noted.

The cost of the contract will be paid with city and county funds, including a $40,000 payment through county coffers, the Statesman reported. The cost-sharing agreement comes by virtue of shared geography: Greenfield is located just outside city limits within the county while the Oak Bluff Estates subdivision is located within the city limits, as the Statesman noted in its report.
“Over the past couple of years we’ve experienced flooding in this area,” Michael Thane, city utility and environmental services director, is quoted in the Statesman as having said. "Because it is county and city property that is impacted, we have talked to the county about sharing in the cost of doing analysis and design work to help mitigate future flooding in this area.”
