The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Round Rock.

Hello again, Round Rock! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Round Rock Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Round Rock Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Round Rock long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine and patchy clouds. High: 85 Low: 58.

Here are the top three stories in Round Rock today:

  1. Local police departments are recognizing the RRPD telecommunicators for National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. The RRPD telecommunicators were on the line with 9-1-1 callers when a tornado ripped through Round Rock on Mar. 21, 2022. Selena Castro, RRPD Telecommunicator, risked her life to come to work on the day of the storm, even though it was her day off. She said, "It's what we signed up for. We signed up for anything that can happen at a moment's notice, so just have to be available and help your partners out." (CBS Austin)
  2. After the Mar. 21, 2022 storm that damaged Round Rock, and with Texas tornado season still in full swing, experts are saying a $30 tool is important for tornado safety. Many people are reliant on cellphones for their news, but cellphones run out of battery during power outages and there is no service during cell tower outages or damage. Paul Yura, the National Weather Service's weather coordination meteorologist for the Austin-San Antonio region, said a National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration weather radio is best for staying informed during a storm. The weather radio receives all weather forecasts and emergency-related incidents, including warnings, watches, tornadoes, and earthquakes within a 40-mile radius. (KXAN)
  3. Looking for a new house in the Round Rock area? Patch and Redfin have the scoop on the latest open houses in your area. Check out these newly-listed local properties, including a 4-bed, 3.5-bath home for $642,000, and another with 3 beds and 2 baths for $410,000. (Round Rock Patch)
