Sam Bass Road Closure Delayed UPDATE

Artery had been targeted for repair.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- The planned closure of Sam Bass Road for needed repair work has been postponed indefinitely, a Texas Department of Transportation spokesman said Friday.

TxDot officials earlier announced the closure of the Round Rock artery for reconstruction starting Sunday, saying the artery would be closed for 1 ½ months. But Friday, TxDot officials reversed course, saying the closure won’t be happening after all--at least not in the immediate future.

Contractors had been scheduled to reconstruct the intersection, as well as replace the culvert on FM 3406. But preliminary work on the farm-to-market road was deemed necessary before embarking on road repair, a TxDot spokesman explained.

“We have just received word that the closure and detour for Sam Bass Road on Sunday has been temporarily postponed,” Christopher Bishop, spokesman for the TxDot Austin district, said in an email. “Some paving work on FM 3406 required prior to the closure experienced some base failures in the roadway substructure, preventing the traffic shift at the Sam Bass intersection.”

TxDot officials had outlined a detour for motorists once Sam Bass Road was to close, via Creek Bend Boulevard (pictured in blue in the above supplied image). For the time being, that detour won’t be necessary.

“No new date has been set at this time,” Bishop said of a timeline for future road closure.
