Sarah Bruchmiller Named New Williamson County Associate Judge

Newly tapped judge graduated from the University of Texas before earning her law degree from South Texas College of Law.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TEXAS — Sarah Bruchmiller recently was selected to be the new associate judge in the Magistrate’s Office, officials said on Wednesday.

Judge Bruchmiller was sworn in on Friday, Feb. 8. She graduated from the University of Texas before earning her law degree from South Texas College of Law, according to a bio provided by the county.

While in law school, Bruchmiller held a judicial internship with the First Court of Appeals and worked for the Office of the General Counsel for the governor of Texas. In 2006, she joined the Harris County District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney. While in Houston, she gained extensive trial experienced handling cases involving capital murder, aggravated robbery, sexual assault, crimes against children, driving while intoxicated, and drug offenses.

Additionally, she served as a chief prosecutor in both the felony and the misdemeanor divisions. During that time, Bruchmiller took on assignments in specialty divisions handling cases involving family violence, child abuse, and juvenile defendants. She worked with multi-disciplinary teams in specialty courts for defendants with mental illness and human trafficking victims. She joined the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office as a chief prosecutor in 2017.

Throughout her legal career, Bruchmiller has led presentations at conferences related to juvenile law, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and crimes against children. Given her expertise, the judge has trained local law enforcement on criminal investigation and case law. Among her other accomplishments are the publication of a five-part series of articles on juvenile law for the Texas Prosecutor legal journal, and her recent selection to serve on the team planning for the implementation of an innovative alternative to incarceration program for emerging adults in Williamson County.
