Start Training Now For Round Rock Fire Truck Pull Scheduled Later This June

Benefiting Special Olympics Texas, event features teams of a dozen people competing for fastest time to pull fire engine 75 feet.

ROUND ROCK, TX — Members of the community will come together later this month to use their collective strength for a good cause at the Round Rock Sports Center as they attempt to pull a fire engine as a benefit for Special Olympics Texas.

Yes, you read that correctly. People will sign up to haul a 55,000-pound Round Rock fire truck a distance of 75 feet in competing for the fastest time. The annual Fire Truck Pull is a team-building activity and fundraiser open to the public. The beneficiary of this unusual event is Special Olympics Texas athletes in the Central Texas Area.

The Fire Truck Pull requires teams ideally consisting of a dozen people (your friends, family members or colleagues, let's say) to put their biceps together to pull the emergency vehicle. Teams with fewer than 12 members should indicate that when registering, as “fill-ins” can be found to fill the void. The challenge will wrap up with an awards ceremony for the Non-Gym/CrossFit Fastest Team Pull, Gym/CrossFit Fastest Team Pull Emergency Services Fastest Team Pull and Top Fundraising Team, organizers said.

Check-in and walk-up registration begins at 2 p.m., with the first pull slated for 3:15 p.m. The entry fee is $30 per person or $360 per team of 12 people.

In addition to the registration fee, teams are encouraged to raise extra funds in an effort to compete for the “Top Fundraising Team” award, organizers noted. All funds collected through this event will go to SOTX to provide sports programming and competition training for more than 4,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the Central Texas Area, officials added.

This event operates under the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), which is SOTX’s largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle, officials said. Through efforts such as the Fire Truck Pull, Texas LETR raised more than $1.4 million last year supporting more than 58,300 SOTX athletes across the state, officials said.

The event staged at the Round Rock Sports Center is scheduled for June 17. Registration can be completed in advance online here. For more information contact Courtney Shelton (cshelton@sotx.org) at 512.491.2927.
