Texas Super Tuesday: WilCo Constable Primary Results

Precinct 1 and 3 are uncontested, but Democrats and Republicans alike are vying for their party's nod in Precincts 2 and 4.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — There are two contested races for two constable precincts on Tuesday, with six candidates between them hoping to secure their party's nomination for the law enforcement office.

PRECINCT 1

Precinct 1 is uncontested, with Vinne Cherrone and Mickey Chance set for a November general election showdown as the Republican and Democrat candidates, respectively. Similarly, Republican Kevin Stofle is unopposed. in Precinct 3.

PRECINCT 2

Precinct 2, on the other hand, has four contenders — two each from both ends of the political spectrum:

  • Jeff Anderson is vying for the Republican nomination. The businessman is retired from Travis County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Air Force Reserves, according to his bio.
  • Renee Harrell, a licensed Texas peace officer since 1994, also is vying for the Republican nod. She is a 1994 graduate of Copperas Cove High School.

Late Tuesday, Anderson seemed headed for a victory with a commanding 22-point lead for 61.19 percent of the vote. Harrell secured just under 40 percent of ballots cast.

On the Democratic side, Gregory Papst hopes to secure the nomination from his patty. He is a 49-year resident of the county, and has served as deputy constable for a quarter century. Robert Tijerina is competing for the Democratic nomination. According to his bio, he began his law enforcement career in 1997 with the Travis County Sheriff's Office where he worked as a jailer before being promoted to patrol deputy.

Early voting results showe Papst with 45.16 percent of the vote compared to 54.84 percent for Tijerina.

PRECINCT 4

Republican Paul Leal is unopposed in the primary election. Democrats Hoby Smith and Perry Travis are both vying for the Democratic nomination. Smith describes himself as a retired peace officer with 30 years' experience.

Unofficial results showed Travis with 57.58 percent of the vote compared to Smith's 42.41 percent.
