Transportation Officials Approve $3M Funding For Round Rock Kenney Fort Extension
The artery's envisioned lengthening from U.S. 79 to Texas 45 is seen as a critical cog to broader regional traffic-related enhancements.

ROUND ROCK, TX — A regional transportation planning group has approved a $2.9 million expenditure to extend Kenney Fort Boulevard, according to a published report.
The 20-member Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, to which City Councilman Craig Morgan and Williamson County Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long belong, approved the funding, according to an Austin American-Statesman report.
The MPO comprises city and county government representatives from Williamson, Travis, Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell and Hays counties. It's tasked with disbursing state and federal funds to projects enhancing transportation throughout Central Texas.

Bob Daigh, the county’s senior infrastructure director, announced the funding during the Commissioner Court’s Tuesday meeting, the newspaper reported. He said Long and Round Rock Mayor Pro Tem Craig Morgan spearheaded the effort to receive funding from the group.
The Kenney Fort extension is a component of more broad roadway planning for the area, with an aim toward extending the artery U.S. 79 to Texas 45.

The proximity of Kenney Fort to the envisioned MoKan connection makes the project even more critical, Daigh said. The MoKan corridor has long been discussed as a north-to-south option to Interstate 35 that has yet to be built, the report noted.
“It is very important, planning all those roadways together, because they tie in to (Texas) 45 at the same place,” Daigh said, as quoted by the newspaper. “MoKan is a real asset. It goes from Georgetown to the city of Austin.”
