Well-Known Civic Leader Announces City Council Bid

Rene Flores is poised to run for the Place 2 council seat.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- Local banker Rene Flores has announced he’ll be throwing his hat in the ring in pursuit of the Place 2 seat on the Round Rock City Council.

The announcement comes one day after incumbent George White disclosed he won’t seek re-election in May, the Austin American-Statesman notes.

A community banker with Texas First Bank, Flores has served on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission since 2011. He recently completed a five-year stint on the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce board of directors.

He also belongs to the El Amistad Club, and previously served as a volunteer youth coach with the city’s parks and recreation department and the YMCA.

The city council election date is May 7.
