WilCo Creates Site To Help People Register For Coronavirus Shots

A Vaccine Registration Technical Assistance site is set up at the Sun City Ballroom, 2 Texas Dr., in Georgetown with more planned soon.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Williamson County has created a specialized site to help residents register to receive the coronavirus vaccine, officials said on Friday.

While the county continues to make strides to fulfill demand for vaccines, officials said, there is a limited supply of doses. Correspondingly, officials added, there also is a dire need for people unable to register online to get the appropriate assistance.

To streamline the vaccine registration process and reduce any barriers that could prevent a person from properly registering to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the county has created a Vaccine Registration Technical Assistance site (VRTA) at the Sun City Ballroom, 2 Texas Dr., in Georgetown. The county aims to expand this program and launch more sites in the coming days, officials said.

At VRTA locations primarily run by trained volunteers, residents can get help filling out their registration paperwork once they have received a vaccination appointments from Family Hospital Systems (FHS), officials said. Vaccines currently are available to those in the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Phase 1a and 1b criteria. For details on the DSHS criteria, please click here. To get added to the waitlist, please visit the Family Hospital Systems website.

“These sites are for those that need assistance with technology to get all their documents uploaded and be fully registered prior to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine,” Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell said in a prepared statement.

There are 81,282 people currently living in Williamson County who are 65 and older and are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, officials noted.

“We are working rapidly to meet the needs of our community,” Gravell said. “We can open all of the mega sites that we want in Williamson County, but until we get a significant amount of vaccines, it is still going to be a fairly slow process.”

So far, Family Hospital Systems has administered 15,000 doses to individuals who had pre-registered to be on the waitlist. Monday, Feb. 1, and Tuesday, Feb. 2, Family Hospital Systems will continue vaccinating people by appointment only at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex drive-thru site. On Wednesday, Feb. 3, vaccinations by appointment will be administered at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex.

On Tuesday, Jan. 26, the Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a contract with Curative Inc. to set up additional vaccination sites, once they are named a hub provider by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
