Williamson County Commissioner Terry Cook Appointed To Central Texas Clean Air Coalition

The multi-county coalition aims to comply with federal ground-level ozone standards and ensure overall air quality.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — The Williamson County Commissioners Court recently approved the appointment of Commissioner Terry Cook, Precinct 1, to the Central Texas Clean Air Coalition, officials said.

The appointment was made on Jan. 31. The Central Texas Clean Air Coalition (CAC) of the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) is a voluntary association of organizations that support the regional effort toward improvement of air quality in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties. Members of the Coalition support the regional effort toward improvement of air quality in central Texas.

“I am excited to be a member of an organization dedicated to studying issues and making recommendations to improve our air quality,” Cook said in a prepared statement. “The work of this group is critical to sustaining our area’s quality of life today and in the future.”

The purpose of the CAC is to:

  • Develop, adopt, and implement clean air plans to achieve and maintain compliance with federal ground-level ozone standards.
  • Establish and monitor a regional effort toward the improvement of air quality.
  • Develop policies and strategies that will provide guidance for each of its independent governing bodies about actions that will achieve clean air in Central Texas.
  • Work cooperatively to achieve clean air standards that will protect public health while allowing local governments the flexibility to select measures best-suited to each community’s needs and resources.
  • Provide the CAPCOG executive committee recommendations for administering funding provided by local sources to support the regional air quality plan or program implementation.

Cook’s appointment is scheduled to end on Dec. 31., and there is no limit as to the number of times a representative may be reappointed, officials said.
