Williamson County Launches No Refusal 'DWI Initiative Weekend' To Curb Drunk Driving

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX β€” Deputies will be out in full force through the end of the month to crack down on impaired drivers over the Memorial Day weekend.

Dubbed the DWI Initiative Weekend, the effort will be in effect from May 26 to May 30 from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. During this period, Williamson County deputies will apply for an on-the-spot blood search warrant from municipal judges to enable police to determine intoxication levels from those refusing to submit to a voluntary sample of their breath or blood, police said.

β€œIn today’s world with ride sharing and understanding of the tragic results of drinking and driving, there is no excuse for it, Sheriff Robert Chody said in reference to driving while intoxicated. "I have instructed my deputies to pay particular attention to DWI offenses this weekend. We at the Sheriff’s Office will have no remorse for lawful arrests of DWI’s. We warned you,”

With that said, officials said the initiative is meant as a reminder to everyone that the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to make the responsible choice not to drive if they are impaired in any way.
