Williamson County Snags Budget Award For 7th Straight Year

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — The county recently garnered the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA)—the seventh consecutive year Williamson County has been so honored.

County officials described the honor as one reflecting "...the commitment of the county and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting."

Budget Officer Ashlie Koenig expounded on that point: “This award would not have been possible without the dedication and support of the County departments, elected officials and the Commissioners Court whose collaborative efforts made this document a reality.”

In order to receive the budget award, Williamson County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:

• A policy document

• A financial plan

• An operations guide

• A communications device

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving more than 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
