Williamson County, State Officials Celebrate FM 1460 Completion

With county's population expected to grow 80 percent by 2040, road widening is critical in keeping up wish such astonishing growth.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TEXAS — Travelers in Williamson County now have another north/south route to get to their destinations in the form of FM 1460, state transportation officials said Monday.

The Texas Department of Transportation and its partners cut the ribbon on the FM 1460 widening project on Monday. Staff members from the office of U.S. Rep. John R. Carter were on hand for the ceremony along with officials from the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), Williamson County and the cities of Georgetown and Round Rock to celebrate the completion of construction on FM 1460, from Quail Valley Drive to University Boulevard.

“The population of Williamson County is expected to increase by 80 percent between 2017 and 2040,” TxDOT Austin District Engineer Terry McCoy said in explaining the need for the new artery. “This expansion project helps us deal with the traffic that comes along with that population growth.”

The $21 million project converted the two-lane roadway into a three-and-a-half mile stretch of roadway with two travel lanes in each direction and a center-turn lane or grassy median where appropriate. To get the project done, TxDOT received financial commitments from CAMPO, Williamson County and the cities of Georgetown and Round Rock . "Each played a pivotal role in moving the project forward," officials said in a press advisory.

The contractor for the project is OHL USA, Inc.
