Williamson County Traffic Stop Yields 48 Kilos Of Meth

Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said deputies on Monday stopped a vehicle along I-35 and found drugs behind tires.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TEXAS — The sheriff of Williamson County on Monday said a routine traffic stop along Interstate 35 resulted in a bust yielding 48 kilos of methamphetamine.

Via Twitter, Sheriff Robert Chody said members of an interdiction unit completed a traffic stop involving a 2007 Toyota Rav4 that was headed northbound on I-35. The stop was prompted after the driver was spotted traveling in the left lane and not passing, Chody explained.

Once the stop was executed, deputies found around 48 kilos (that's about 106 pounds) of meth hidden within welded metal traps inside all our tired, Chody said.

The exact time and location of the bust was not disclosed, and the name and booking photo of the suspect was not provided. Patch has asked Chody for those details, and will update this story if more information is provided.

According to Narcotic News, a pound of meth has a street value in San Antonio (Austin is not listed) of anywhere between $7,500 to $13,000.
