Jury Scam Prompts Warning From Williamson District Clerk
Officials on Thursday alerted residents to scammers attempting to extract money from people as fines for not having served on jury duty.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — County officials on Thursday alerted residents to scammers attempting to extract money from people as fines for not having served on jury duty.
The scam was reported to the office of Williamson County District Clerk Lisa David, according to a press advisory. The clerk reported that people have been receiving calls from someone claiming to a county or law enforcement officer threatening arrest of residents who failed to appear for jury duty. The caller then instructs the person to pay a certain amount of money to avoid arrest.
With great specificity, the scammer also has directed people to the Justice Center to see the clerk in order to have the fictitious warrants lifted, according to officials.
