San Antonio's Muertos Fest returning for weekend of Oct. 23-25 (sacurrent.com) — San Antonio's free Muertos Fest returns to Hemisfair Oct. 23-25, bringing giant altars, processions, live music, food and a bustling art mercado downtown. Celebrate." promising an especially meaningful Día de los Muertos weekend.
2. San Antonio short-term rental owners push back on proposed permit fee hike (expressnews.com) — San Antonio short-term rental owners are pushing back against a proposed permit fee hike that could raise onsite permits to $450 and offsite to $1,000 every three years. City officials say higher fees are needed to cover oversight and police-call costs, while owners want transparent data and worry some properties may close as council weighs the broader budget and tax decisions.
3. Pedestrian in crosswalk struck and killed by driver on San Antonio's North Side (star-telegram.com) — A 73-year-old woman was fatally struck while using a crosswalk at Thousand Oaks Drive and Uhr Lane on San Antonio's North Side late Tuesday morning. Police say the driver, a 48-year-old woman who remained at the scene and cooperated, hit the pedestrian while turning left, and investigators have not yet announced whether charges will be filed.
4. San Antonio councilman proposes 'shovel-ready' program to attract businesses. How would it work? (kens5.com) — San Antonio residents could see a new "shovel-ready" land program aimed at speeding up business development and easing future budget pressures without raising property or sales taxes. District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte wants the city, SAWS, and CPS Energy to pre-complete permitting and infrastructure on select sites so companies can open faster, potentially boosting jobs and revenue as leaders confront a projected budget shortfall.
5. From 911 call to courtroom: How San Antonio-area agencies handle domestic violence cases (ksat.com) — San Antonio-area law enforcement now uses a Danger Assessment tool to flag high‑risk domestic violence cases, with thousands of assessments already completed by SAPD and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
