Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) invites the community to celebrate and honor Black History Month with various events, book lists, and more. The library's activities acknowledge and recognize "the contributions, achievements, and activism of Black Americans throughout history" and offer a time "to reflect on the past and look ahead to the future." For a list of events, book lists and more, visit About Black History Month - African American Resources - LibGuides at San Antonio Public Library (mysapl.org) and: (Press Release Desk)
  2. The first Rusty Taco's in San Antonio will be celebrating its grand opening on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 7 a.m. at 7026 Bulverde Road. "The chain was founded in 2010 by Rusty Fenton, who decided to open a taco spot after being inspired during travels throughout the U.S and Mexico." Now there are 38 locations in the U.S., and there are plans to open more in San Antonio in the future. The new local venue is owned by Andy Besing and Perrin Larsh, in partnership with San Antonio-based Lone Star Restaurant Group. Located on an "expansive 900-square-foot outdoor patio," the restaurant will offer indoor and outdoor dining, as well as a full-service bar. Guests will be able to choose from "more than 20 types of street tacos and a series of made-from-scratch sides" from the menu. Denise Fenton, Rusty Taco co-founder and brand director said, "San Antonio is very special to our family, with happy memories of great taco eating adventures...We are so excited that the first Rusty Taco is opening in one of Rusty's favorite cities." The restaurant will open Sunday-Thursday, from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. and Friday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more details, visit: (mySanAntonio.com)
  3. On Saturday, Feb. 5, "The Stay Strong Foundation held a blanket drive for children and young adults who are hospitalized. The event was held at Chicken-N-Pickle, located at 5215 Utsa Blvd. in San Antonio. 18-year-old Noah Adams started the foundation, with the help of his mom, after he was "diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma -- a rare form of bone cancer -- when he was 17 years old. In 2020 he underwent "10 months of chemotherapy at University Hospital" and "a necessary rotationplasty surgery, where he had to have his leg amputated." During that time, he received a blanket and he said, "I brought in my blanket to every treatment after I got that blanket and like I said it was just really helpful." Fortunately, he is now in remission for the next 5 years and is now attending college in Pittsburgh. As a sign of appreciation, he said, "I just felt a need to give back and over the past year, year and a half that's what we've been doing."
