Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:

  1. This year, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) will provide gifts to thousands of children through its Blue Santa program. The program, which began in the 70s, is made up of officers who give back to the community by delivering presents to local children and families at their door. Officer Menell Orosco said, "Right now (we're able to help) over 5,000 kids by the end. We hope to be able to help a little over 7,000 children that will receive gifts from Blue Santa." To make a gift donation, drop it off any time at any police substation in town, or you can make a monetary donation by clicking here. For more information, visit: (KSAT San Antonio)
  2. For the 15th year in a row, the City of San Antonio, in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank, will deliver food boxes to eligible seniors through its Convoy of Hope program. The Food Bank normally provides food boxes to seniors every month at the city-operated senior center but during the holiday season, city council members participate by delivering the food boxes personally to them. Eric Cooper, CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank said, "Those boxes are more crucial than ever during the holiday season and pandemic. With the price of food rising, a lot of our seniors are going home with less food in their grocery carts and leaning on us a little more." (KSAT San Antonio)
  3. The Animal Defense League (ADL) is seeking applicants to help care for animals in need of a loving home. The ADL is at full capacity, so there is no room left to help animals in need. Michelle Thorson with the ADL said that "many of the animals are already spayed and neutered and ready to be taken to a forever home." She added that "in addition to having so many animals, the ADL needs more manpower too." To volunteer to help care for the animals, please go to adltexas.org and visit: (FOX 29)
  4. Voting is now open for the 2021 BroadwayWorld San Antonio Awards, the largest theatre audience awards, with over 100 cities worldwide participating. From now until Dec. 31, readers can vote for their favorite theatres, stars, and shows and this year. BroadwayWorld is "allowing audiences to vote on which theatres they are most excited to return to, and which productions they are most excited to see." For a list of the current standings for San Antonio and to vote, visit: (Broadway World)
  5. Country-pop star Collbie Caillat will make a stop in San Antonio on Wednesday, March 17, 2022 as part of her 15th anniversary tour. During the show, she will perform all the songs from her multi-platinum album, "COCO" at the Majestic Theatre, located at 224 E. Houston St. Tickets go on sale Friday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. For more details, visit: (mySanAntonio.com)
