Welcome back, San Antonio! Here's everything you need to know to get this Tuesday started off right.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 89 Low: 63.

Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. Yesterday was National Taco Day, and many San Antonians took advantage of tasty taco deals at various eateries around town, but perhaps some of them were lucky enough to get an autograph along with their taco. Throughout the years, MySA puts together lists of places where San Antonians get their breakfast tacos, but "never thought to tap the local authorities to dish on where they get their tacos." Writer Madalyn Mendoza reveals where San Antonio's local celebrities get their breakfast tacos. Some of those listed are Roma Villavicencio, host of KENS 5 Great Day SA; Ron Nirenberg, San Antonio Mayor; and our beloved NBA mascot, the Spurs Coyote. So next time you're picking up breakfast tacos, be sure to have a notebook and pen, in case you bump into one of our famous San Antonio taco lovers! (Laredo Morning Times)
  2. Movie lovers! Sci-Fi film geeks! Get ready! A new science fiction film series is coming to town on Oct. 9! "Raza Cósmica," presented by MonteVideo and Presa House Gallery, will feature four screenings of Latino science fiction shorts throughout October. "Ten films and 12 filmmakers, including San Antonio natives Miguel Alvarez and Grace Goen" will be showcased. Two screenings will be shown outdoors at Mission Marquee Plaza, located at 3100 Roosevelt Ave., while the other two screenings will be held virtually. Although all four screenings are free, registration will be required for the virtual ones. For more details, visit: (Subscription: San Antonio Current)
  3. San Antonio was listed as the sixth best city in the U.S., according to a recent survey in Travel + Leisure magazine. "Each year, the magazine asks readers to share their thoughts about cities, airlines, hotels, spas, and other travel experiences. Readers grade cities based on their sites and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and overall value." Some of the places that appeal to visitors and locals alike are the River Walk, the Alamo, the Pearl district and the Hemisfair." There are also many "highly rated restaurants and highly acclaimed hotels." It's no surprise that San Antonio received such a high ranking among top U.S. cities! San Antonio is a "city rich in history, bursting with culture, and booming with modern attractions" and there is so much to see and enjoy here. (culturemap.com)
  4. Something is brewing in San Antonio! Downtown developer David Adelman purchased a warehouse near the Five Points neighborhood and is talking with a brewery to bring it there. The warehouse, which he bought in September, is located on 1606 N. Colorado St. near Culebra Road. Adjacent to it is another property, on 1618 N. Colorado, which he purchased in October. Together both properties are about 1.1 acres in size. When interviewed, Adelman said that "If you try to go into [an existing] neighborhood, that can be disruptive and challenging." The area around his recent purchase is "industrial, so no one is going to complain. The G-word isn't going to come up." By G-word, Adelman refers to gentrification and although he hasn't revealed the name of the brewery he's negotiating with, he hopes to begin renovation soon. He says "the building is in reasonable condition, and the area is a little bit of a blank canvas over there, but I hope to see the neighborhood continue to evolve." (San Antonio Current)
  5. As part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, "the Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence (CCDV) is asking San Antonio residents to shine a light on domestic violence by turning their porch light purple and participating in The Purple Porch SA initiative to voice their support." Judge Monique Diaz, 150th Civil District Court Judge and Co-Chair of the CCDV, said "The Purple Porch SA campaign is a great way for the community to come together to break the stigma of talking about violence in our homes and encourage open and honest conversations among neighbors, and help those suffering from domestic violence know that they are not alone. We hope that by propelling the conversation on domestic violence, we can also connect victims to available resources." (Press Release Desk)
