To help combat this disease, the City of San Antonio’s Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) started the Diabetes Prevention & Control program in 2013 to provide health education to the community specifically designed for people living with diabetes. Metro Health offers the Diabetes Self-Management program to people living with diabetes, and the Diabetes Prevention Program for people at risk for developing diabetes.

An important tool that will help community members find education programs and resources for diabetes is the launch of the new www.diabeteshelpsa.com website. This new site is easier to navigate, lists diabetes programs, shares resources, and has a risk assessment tool so users can determine their risk level. This risk assessment tool also gives recommendations on seeking advice from a doctor on further testing they should consider.
