“I proudly support today’s City Council resolution declaring racism a public health crisis.
“The history and effects of racism in our city are well laid out in the document and the work to come is clear. This resolution is an inflection point that commits us to do the hard work required to identify and eliminate racism in its most subtle forms.

“Historic racism was blatant, today’s forms of racism are difficult to identify because they blend with business as usual and fester in false blame and mistaken righteousness. It will not be easy because, if done well, it will force us to face generational beliefs that have condoned business, educational, legal and economic practices in our city that have left far too many behind for far too long.
“I support this resolution with a sense of hope that we have the fortitude to do the right work.”
