Happy Wednesday, San Antonio! Here's what's going on around San Antonio today.
First, today's weather:
Sunny, windy and less humid. High: 84 Low: 52.
Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- "Día de Los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) is not just a seasonal happening in San Antonio. It's actually something that lasts all year long! In the two-day Mexican tradition, people honor their departed loved ones "by enjoying the foods they liked, sharing anecdotes of their time on earth, and praying." In San Antonio, "ties to the past are evident in the art that covers walls throughout town, in passed down recipes, and the music that still gets people to the dance floor decades after it was released." - If you're looking for a four-legged buddy, there are 20 adorable dogs and cats in San Antonio right now that are looking for "fur-ever" homes. With cooler weather here, wouldn't it be nice to have a pet to walk with or cuddle and cozy up with? A new kitty or puppy would also make a great Christmas gift for those little ones who have been nice! - The Cucuy is coming to San Antonio! New San Antonio food truck "Tacos Cucuy" will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Folklores Coffee House, on 1526 E. Grayson St. Local chef and owner Paul Morales "recently spent time in California, where he fell in love with tortillas made with heirloom grains that packed rich corn flavor." When he returned to San Antonio, he launched Ancient Heirloom Grains, "which produces the earthy heirloom corn tortillas Morales uses to create what he calls 'bespoke taco experiences' at Tacos Cucuy." The menu will focus on scratch-made elevated tacos "using local ingredients, responsibly-sourced proteins, fresh handmade salsas and, of course, Morales' heirloom corn tortillas." - The Chicago Ballet Company will perform "Reckless" on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Lila Cockrell Theater, located at 900 E. Market St. Not only will the audience enjoy a beautiful dance performance, but they will also become aware of the serious issue of human trafficking coming to San Antonio. "Reckless" has partnered with local nonprofit Ransomed Life "to help the next victim and tell a story in the form of ballet." Rachel Walker, a dancer born and raised in San Antonio, said, "It's not something you're going to be able to forget easily." For more information and for tickets to "Reckless," visit HERE. (FOX 29)
- The Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza, one of the largest mariachi music festivals in the United States, is returning to San Antonio in December! The event will be held Friday, Dec. 3 to Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Lila Cockrell Theater, located at 900 E. Market St. Student mariachi musicians "will compete over the course of two days in national mariachi group and vocal competitions" and "there will also be a songwriting competition and mariachi instrumental and vocal workshops." The event will end at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday with a performance by world-renowned Mexico City mariachi group, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. Tickets are on sale now. (KSAT San Antonio)
