The latest on what's happening in San Antonio, delivered straight to your inbox.
Morning, people of San Antonio! It's me again, Gabriela Couvillion, your host of the San Antonio Daily.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and nice. High: 77 Low: 54.
Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- Take the whole family, including your pet, to the Downtown Dog Market this Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The free event will be held at Legacy Park, and food and drinks "will be provided at Pinkerton's BBQ and some of San Antonio's top dog-friendly businesses." Shop and stroll with your "furry friends" and have a "PAWesome" time! (KENS5.com)
- The anticapitalist comedy "Office Space" film series continues at San Antonio's Peacock Alley, located on 110-118 Broadway. With so much going on in the world amid the pandemic crisis, such as work-related stress, strikes and labor issues, it feels great to sit down and just laugh! Forget all about it for a while and enjoy the free show this Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. (San Antonio Current)
- If you're interested in photography, you won't want to miss The Camera Exchange Fall Expo 2021 happening from Nov. 19 - 21 at 6635 San Pedro Ave. The store's biggest sale event of the year will feature gift cards for everyone, free classes, snacks, raffles, giveaways and huge sales. Reps from Sony, Canon, Fujifilm, Tamron and Sigma will also be there "to demo the latest gear" and to help you choose the best items for your photography needs. Heavy traffic is anticipated, so please try to "make arrangements to carpool or ride share," if possible. For more details and to register for this exciting event, please visit: (Eventbrite)
- A local artist named "Ghost" is making his presence known in San Antonio. His art can be seen "on the outside walls of bars, as well as on buildings downtown." The artist got his name from a friend "after he pulled a spooky prank on him one night at a bar," and so the friend started calling him "Ghost" from then on. An army vet, "Ghost" served in Afghanistan and Iraq, before leaving the military in 2014. When he returned home, he couldn't figure out what he wanted to do next, so he started painting. Since then, he's making a living as an artist and his paintings and murals are admired at art shows and around the city. "Ghost" said, "I'm lucky enough to have found something for myself, to find a new mission, to find a new purpose for myself. This is my new purpose." (KSAT San Antonio)
- The Jewish Federation of San Antonio will be hosting two Hanukkah events this month. On Sunday, Nov. 28, a lighting of a menorah will take place at 5:30 p.m. at SeaWorld, and there will be music, crafts and goodie bags for the kids. Tickets are $47 per person and include the menorah-lighting ceremony and park entry from 1-9 p.m. On Tuesday, Nov. 30, a Hanukkah concert by Jason Mesches will be held in the Estancia del Norte hotel courtyard, located at 37 NE Loop 410. At 6 p.m., the lighting of a 9-foot Hanukkah menorah will take place and kids will receive a gift bag filled with Hanukkah goodies and kosher hot chocolate. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets for comfortable outdoor concert viewing, and kids can wear their pajamas. The concert is free but you must pre-register at the PJ Library website.
