Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:

  1. "Operation Care Package," presented by Gunn Auto Group, is requesting donations for "troops deployed to Europe amid the Russia- Ukraine conflict." The city-wide drive began on Monday, March 14 and will continue until Saturday, March 19. Donations requested include hygiene items and packaged snacks, which can be dropped off at all Gunn Auto and Collision Centers. All "donations will be sent to troops deployed to countries like Germany, Poland, Latvia, and Moldova to assist in reinforcing the defenses of NATO allies." For a list of items needed and drop off locations, and to find out how to donate, please visit: (FOX 29)
  2. The top four floors of the Aztec Theatre, located at 104 N Saint Marys St., will soon be converted into a boutique hotel with a rooftop lounge and a lobby. According to the Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC), "the plans were submitted by Aztec Family Group LLC., the owner of the Aztec Theatre, led by local restaurateur Samuel Panchevre, along with Overland Partners and Seventh Generation Design, Inc." On Wednesday, March 16, the "Aztec Theater item is expected to go to the HDRC" and if all permits and approvals turn out as planned, construction should begin around early fall. However, an estimated cost has not been disclosed yet and according to Michael Monceaux, principal on the project, "the group hasn't decided on a name for the hotel yet." For more details on the project visit: (mySA)
  3. Forbes magazine recently "released its lists of the country's best large employers and best startup employers" and two local companies made the best large employers list. San Antonio-based H-E-B ranked No. 38 and San Antonio's largest banking and insurance company, USAA, received a No. 135 ranking. "USAA employs some 36,000 workers and has routinely earned a spot on Forbes' variety of employer-focused best of lists." H-E-B, most Texans' top choice of grocer, also regularly makes the cut on Forbes' best of employer lists, and employs about 100,000 workers."
