- Summer break from school will be over soon "for some San Antonio area school districts," with some of them going back to school earlier, "from Aug. 8 through Aug. 23."
For a list with start dates and school calendar details, please visit: (KSAT San Antonio) - Spare Parts nonprofit invites artists to participate in its "first ever Draw-A-Thon" on Saturday, July 23. The event is "an artistic marathon in which local creatives pledge to spend between three and 12 hours creating original art while accepting donations to support the organization." They hope "to raise at least $5,000 to support to support its Center for Creative Reuse, which provides low-cost materials to artists and others in the San Antonio community." - "A reward of up to $5,000" is being offered for any information leading "to the arrest" of the killer who fatally shot 36-year-old Timothy Sypher on Saturday, June 25. According to police, Sypher "was stopped at a red light near a construction area" on E. Martin and Soledad streets "when a light blue sedan pulled up and opened fire on Sypher's vehicle. The driver of the light blue sedan sped off. Sypher was hit and killed during the shooting." If you have any information on the case, please call 210-224-7867 (STOP). (FOX 29)
- Local artist Jacqueline Reynoso recently opened her own art establishment called Brushworks Studio & Gallery, at 13962 Nacogdoches Road. On Saturday, Aug. 27, from 7:30-9:30 p.m., she will host a grand opening of her venue which features "her own work as well as pop culture pieces from young artists in San Antonio." On that day, "all artists will be there to talk about their work and sell their prints. Reynoso said she'll also have live painting for the event." For more details visit: (mySA)
- At 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, the San Antonio Food Bank will be at the Dietert Center, located at 451 Guadalupe St. in Kerrville, to help "individuals navigate the application process." Brenda Thompson, executive director at the Dietert Center, said, "We welcome our friends from the San Antonio Food Bank. Most of us are aware that the programs exist, and the idea of someone coming here to help walk applicants through the process makes them much more accessible.
