Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- On Saturday, April 3, volunteers with the San Antonio's Office of Historic Preservation, along with Rehabber Club and Students Together Achieving Revitalization, "repaired window screens, porch columns and any other maintenance" at a historic home on the East side of town. Cory Edwards from the Historic Preservation Society said that the house was built in 1895, and the homeowner has lived there since 1955. The home renovation work was "provided at no cost to the homeowner," and according to a city official, "events like this one shows the power we have to help neighbors in need." - San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) will be hosting a "SAACS (Bottle) Baby Shower" community event to encourage fostering" of animals in the shelter. The event will be held on Saturday, April 23 from 9-11 a.m. at 4710 State Highway 151. "Attendees will meet with shelter placement staff to discuss ways to identify truly orphaned puppies and kittens," and will get "free and low-cost spay-neuter information." In addition, they will be taught "how to feed and care for the youngest pets SAACS needs foster care for," as those animals "often referred to as bottle babies...are completely dependent on their human foster parents for feeding until they are roughly 4 to 6 weeks old." To RSVP for the event, go to SAACS Facebook page ASanAntonioACS and if you can't make the event that day, sign up at www.saacs.info/orphanfoster. You can also help by donating an item from SAACS's Amazon wish list at www.saacs.info/orphanwishlist. For more information visit: (Press Release Desk)
