Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- Shiner Beer's Texas Spoetzl Brewery recently released a new Mexican-style beer called ¡Órale! The new brew has an "earthy, mildly sweet flavor" that is created from the "premium malt and lager yeast" that it's produced with, and the "agave" that it's brewed with. According to the company, "it pairs well with spicy, flavorful foods," thus the name, "¡Órale!" which means "heck yes!" in Spanish. "Shiner officials said the name is appropriate because the new beer is a passion project for San Antonio-based CEO Carlos Alvarez. Alvarez grew up in Mexico and has a history of working with iconic Mexican beer brands." Alvarez said. "I know Shiner fans will enjoy ¡Orale! — a word that expresses so much in the Spanish language." - In 2018, antique dealer Laura Young bought a bust at a Texas Goodwill store for $34.99. When she looked at it in the outdoor light, she saw chips on the base and it looked very old, so right away she suspected she had found something special. Sure enough, it turned out that "it was part of a Bavarian king's collection until it was stolen during World War II," and was actually 2,000 years old! However, unfortunately she can't keep it because it's a stolen artifact, but it will be on loan at the San Antonio Museum of Art where it will be exhibited until May 2023. - The "13th annual Paseo Por el Westside" will take place on Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Rinconcito de Esperanza, located at 816 S. Colorado St. The free event will feature "a variety of workshops and activities," as well as "food, art, and a mix of entertainment." The event will offer the "Westside community members and other San Antonio residents" an opportunity "to celebrate the community that embodies much of the city's history and culture," as well as "experience that puro magic of the Westside firsthand as there will be."
